Worth the moneyI bought this mat specifically to prevent slipping and sliding. I have sweaty palms, so poses like Downward-facing Dog were really hard for me. The first time I used this mat I was amazed at the difference... I didn't have to put a towel under my hands anymore. And it just gets better every time I use it. It doesn't slide at all on the floor during your workout, yet when it's time to pick it up and put it away, it comes right up without sticking.
This mat has a unique texture pattern I haven't seen on other mats. The diamond pattern keeps you from sliding. Plus, the material is awesome - it's a mix of rubber and cotton. The cotton wicks away moisture and the rubber feels nice and springy.
It's a good thickness, thin enough to roll up and transport but very cushy and a good knee-saver. I am 5'6" and it is the perfect size for me, both wide and long enough.
This mat does have two drawbacks - one, it's kind of heavy, and two, you have to clean and air it out really well before using it. Straight from the package it has a very strong smell. Hang it on your shower rod and rub it down with a washcloth dipped in slightly soapy water. Leave it hanging for a week to air out the smell. (I even turned on my exhaust fan so it didn't stink up the bathroom.) After a week enough of the smell is gone so you can use it, and within 3 weeks it disappears completely.
The mat starts to lose grippiness after a few of weeks of use, so rub it down with a damp washcloth every now and then to remove dust and oil. That will keep it from becoming slippery.
